Hey, Teacher...leave that kid alone!
I used to draw ALL the time as a kid. My parents hooked me up with pencils, paper, and an airbrush so I could create all the wild things of my imagination – and they supported my drive to do what I was passionate about, even though I constantly got in trouble at school for drawing more than doing my class work. The crazy thing is that I'll never forget one of my teachers telling me I would never make anything of my life because I drew too much.
The creative freedom I was given and my teacher’s ignorance fueled the fire for me to go all out.
I started a business at age 18 called Dogman Designs where I customized Chuck Taylor All-Stars and Levi's 501 authentic jeans with an airbrush and Sharpie pens. The artwork was totally off the wall and extremely radical for those days but I was never one to conform to other people’s rules or ideas anyways.
The last 20 years I have been busting out custom artwork and designs for all kinds of people; some famous and some only known in the underground world of things. That doesn’t really matter though. What does matter is that I have outlasted the skeptics, the fly by nights, and the odds rolling against me.
Regardless, the creativity and art is only a part of my life…
My biggest accomplishments aren’t the awards or the money but rather giving my life to Christ, my 17 years of marriage to a beautiful wife, my totally awesome kids, and that I served my country through the U.S. Army Reserve. These things are what I am most proud of. Besides, as Jim Morrison one wrote, “Art is not eternal.”
