What is the F.C. United Soccer Team about?
Our goal is building homeschool soccer teams that honor God and whose focus is more on teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect than winning trophies and medals. Yes, we do want to compete with excellence and win against great teams across the state but not at the expense of giving up something that is more valuable; our testimony and our values.
Simply stated, everything we do as a team and at F.C. United is for the glory of God.
Who can tryout and play for F.C. United Soccer?
Students who are currently ages 12 and above, who are homeschooled, and are willing to commit to our values, training, and program are eligible to participate and play with F.C. United Homeschool Soccer.
We do provide some opportunities for younger players and non-homeschooled players to participate on a limited, case by case basis. This will depend on whether we are playing in a local club or school league, their maturity and skill level, and adherence to the rest of our guidelines, values, and training. Please contact me directly for additional details.
What are the values of F.C. United?
F.C. United Homeschool Soccer has five values which we will live by and never compromise on. We believe these values are essential for offering and promoting a team that will exemplify Christ, in addition to providing a safe, enjoyable, and healthy competitive environment.
- Honoring God – This club represents Jesus Christ and we will do our best to honor God.
- Commitment – We are committed and dedicated to pursuing excellence in Christianity, our values, this program, and soccer.
- Respect – We will act in a way that is respectful to our coaches, players, families, and the community around us.
- Teamwork – There is no ‘I’ in team. We will work together to accomplish our goals.
- Sportsmanship – We will elevate our standards to playing at the highest level and be the best player we can be no matter what the outcome of the game.
Why did F.C. United get started and what is its history?
The F.C. United Soccer program was started three years ago with the sole purpose of providing home school students the opportunity to learn basic and advanced skills for the wonderful game of soccer. The original vision and idea was born from my blessing of coaching the Scarlet Knights in New York [read more] and the experience with the program there.
F.C. United Soccer has had a great interest, with many kids of various ages participating the last few years, but unfortunately we’ve had a difficult time of building a team for just one specific age group. We were able to play one season of indoor soccer and hope to continue that this winter.
This year we will be changing our format and begin focusing mainly on building U-14 and U-16 teams along with developmental programs for younger players who will one day play high school soccer.
Who leads and coaches F.C. United Soccer?
I, James Dalman, am the head coach of F.C. United Homeschool Soccer. I played the game of soccer for over 10 years at the recreational, competitive, and high school levels mostly as a goalkeeper and midfielder.
I’ve have been coaching many great individuals and teams for over 20 years with two of my players receiving All-State Honors. The last team I coached, The Scarlet Knights, took first place in the NYS Homeschool Tournament for coed and second place for the boy’s team. We also had an impressive and undefeated season before taking second place by losing in overtime at the league championship.
Additionally, I am currently working on obtaining my National D License accreditation as approved by FIFA with the goal of earning up to at least a National C License.
We also have two other great coaches, Scott Thompson and Cathy Holden, who both have played recreational and competitive soccer and who have served with F.C. United for the last three years.
What are the current opportunities for F.C. United Homeschool Soccer?
I am still working on details for our tryouts and practice dates and will be discussing the option of having a soccer mini-camp this summer for players of different ages.
